ABOUT US
Hi! My name is Max! I'm currently the sole owner and worker at LittleBig Construction Equipment Rental.
I started LittleBig construction Equipment Rental in 2021 because I saw the need for affordable equipment in the construction and landscaping trades. If you've ever had to rent equipment from one of the rental companies in the Bay Area, then you know how costly it can be. Not only do you have to pay for the rental itself, but you are also charged taxes, insurance, and when needed, an outrageous delivery fee. In some cases, the cost is almost doubled for a piece of equipment that you may only be using for a few hours. I'm hoping to make things a little more affordable, and a lot more accessible for homeowners working on home projects, or small contractors just trying to get the job done without breaking the bank.
My working roots are in the fields of South West Florida where I was raised as a 3rd generation farmworker. I began picking tomatoes, cucumbers, and my favorite, watermelons around the age of 14! Throughout my time as a farmworker I was also very passionate about trying to make changes in the wages and working conditions in the fields. I began spending time organizing with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (www.ciw-online.org) at a young age, where I further developed a sense of wanting to be a part of positive change around me. Unfortunately, as is the case with so many of my peers in small town America, I fell into some trouble with the law and right into the hands of a flawed prison system.
Fast forward to today. I've been in California since 2009 where I came to help co-parent my daughter, who is now the first person in my family to go to college!
It's here in the SF Bay Area where I found a new sense of purpose through the Arizmendi Association (Arizmendi Association). I'm one of the founders of Arizmendi Bakery, a worker-owned business in SF (Arizmendi Panaderia & Pizzeria). During my time working and building the cooperative bakery I was able to rebuild and transform my life. After about 10 years of learning the craft of baking as well as the ins and outs of cooperative ownership, I decided to switch trades and began working at Arizmendi Construction Cooperative as well as some side work at Root Volume (Root Volume), a cooperative landscaping company.
The bigger vision for LittleBig is to expand, to not just be another tool and equipment rental company, but also a Day Labor and Education Center for the trades. I want to build a place where people can come to find work, get training in the trades, and be in community with each other as workers.
My hope is that one day LittleBig will be an example of how we can use the available tools around us to make our lives better, to take our dreams and turn them into reality, to build ourselves up while we build a better world around us.
Now you know who I am, I'd love to get to know you! Please reach out and let LittleBig help you achieve some of your landscaping or construction goals!
